I’m a Lumberjack and I’m OK…
Jun 8th
Now the designers know what they’re dealing with for the bushfire requirements they can get on with designing a suitable house.
In the meantime we’ve got a permit to clear the trees in the Building Location Envelope (BLE) so we’ll be ready to start once the plans have gone through council. After half a day of chainsawing we can to the realisation that we should have just got some heavy machinery in to do their thing.
Oh well! There’s pleanty of trees to bring down.
Back to the Drawing Board
May 3rd
Well our bushfire risk assessment came back at BAL-FZ (Flame Zone) which is the highest rating under the Bushfire Standard. The consultant’s suggestion to reduce this, by only 1 level mind you, was to clear a 25m perimeter around the house. Easy enough. Hang on, isn’t there a VPO on the block.
So we submit an application to council to see what we can remove, and after about a month, they come back saying that we can only remove trees within the BLE.
That means the current design will not conform to the Building codes and standards. So its back to the drawing board to redesign and re-think materials.

Where has the year gone?
Sep 3rd
Wow!!! I can’t believe that its already September, where has the year gone? Has it really been 9 months since I posted anything?
We’ve been trying to sell the rental property in Indooroopilly for ages with no luck, hopefully someone will make an offer soon. This has stopped any progress withgetting a house built on the Anstead block. We’re really excited about the concept that the architect has come up with and are really looking forward to living there, but we’ll have to wait.
We welcomed our first born in to the world on the 22 July, a little boy we’ve called Thomas. What an interesting time we’ve had adjusting to our new lives as parents. I’ll get some updated photos of Thomas up soon.
Leigh’s business Ecovidual has been plodding along ok and is about to expand it range, so keep any eye out for some great new products.
Working the land
Nov 14th
Over the last couple of weekends we’ve been doing a few things on the block at Anstead. We’d had the road fixed up a few months ago, but a few storms have made short work of it, so we decided to put some drainage in to divert the water.
